Advances in lens exchange procedures allow people just like you to continue to live your life the way you want to live it.
At Carter Eye Center, we have a variety of premium lens implants (we call them Lifestyle Lenses) that can correct your cataracts as well as reduce, and in many instances, eliminate your dependency on glasses, bifocals and even readers allowing you to enjoy your lifestyle even more with improved vision!
What is a Lifestyle Lens?
Although standard cataract surgery has been proven very successful at removing cataracts and replacing the eye’s natural lens with a clear lens, many people find they still need glasses, bifocals or multifocals in order to achieve their best vision. Compared to standard intraocular lenses (IOLs), Lifestyle Lenses greatly reduce or even eliminate the need for glasses after your cataract surgery procedure.
At Carter Eye Center, we are dedicated to offering the latest proven technologies that provide the greatest benefit for you, our valued patient. We are pleased to offer the following Lifestyle Lens options:
PanOptix® Trifocal Lens
PanOptix® Trifocal Lens
Dr. Carter is among a select handful of eye surgeons to offer the new PanOptix Lens for cataract surgery. This amazing advancement is the first and only trifocal lens of its kind available in the U.S. What makes the PanOptix Lens so special? Glad you asked!
Choosing the PanOptix Trifocal Lens means more visual freedom! This lens is designed to deliver focusing power at near, mid and far distances, eliminating or reducing the need for glasses, bifocals, trifocals and readers. Even if you have astigmatism! And when you rely less on glasses, you are free to fully immerse yourself in what it is you love.
This powerhouse lens is designed to work well in all situations—daylight, bright light, dim light and low light. That means whether you are working at the computer, reading a book, playing golf or driving to and watching your grandchild’s soccer game, all these activities can be made easier and more enjoyable with clear, crisp vision.
Symfony® Lens
Symfony® Lens
This is the first lens of its kind that corrects astigmatism and provides cataract patients with an extended depth-of-focus, which helps improve their sharpness of vision at near, intermediate and far distances. Carter Eye Center is pleased to offer this technology to Dallas residents.
When first introduced in 2016, the Tecnis Symfony lens was groundbreaking, because previously, patients who had both presbyopia (over-40 reading vision issues) and astigmatism were unable to obtain a single lens that would correct all their vision needs. Its major advantage over many other premium lenses is its increased depth of focus.
Prior to the Symfony lens, surgeons were able to correct patients’ vision with a multifocal lens and/or an LRI or Toric lens to correct their astigmatism and/or presbyopia. These options still exist and are available at Carter Eye Center. The beauty of Symfony is that it addresses both astigmatism and presbyopia in one lens. Beautiful, right?
Crystalens® AO Lens
Crystalens® AO Lens
This Lifestyle Lens is classified as an accommodative lens and is designed to provide excellent vision quality across a more natural range. What does accommodative mean? Accommodation is a process that enables the eye and the lens to work together to adjust focusing power, providing clear vision at all distances.
Dr. Carter was the first surgeon to perform a Crystalens procedure after it received FDA approval. Since then, Dr. Carter has been a world leader in the number of implants performed.
Because Crystalens works with the natural focusing ability of your eye, patients can achieve quality vision at distance, intermediate and near without glasses. Many of our patients are stunned to find out that their personal best vision is even better than they had hoped for!
Harvey Carter, MD
Toric Lenses
Patients who have astigmatism typically need additional correction beyond traditional cataract replacement surgery in order to see clearly post-surgery. A toric lens implant is an excellent way to correct limited amounts of the most common type of astigmatism. While a toric lens is designed to reduce dependency on glasses for distance vision after cataract surgery, many patients still find they need glasses and/or readers for intermediate and near vision.
This is the most basic of the multifocal lenses, but it still offers a fantastic alternative to traditional cataract lenses. These Lifestyle Lenses offer great focus at far and intermediate distances, but it is not uncommon to still need glasses for reading small print or in low light situations. A multifocal lens is a great option to reduce your need for glasses after cataract surgery at a lower price point than some of the newest lens options.
At Carter Eye Center, you can see that we offer several Lifestyle Lens options, all of which can focus at multiple distances but each with its own distinct advantages. Based on your unique vision needs and lifestyle, we will help you choose the lens best for you.
